Wishaw - and onwards!

A hot day out in a tent in a fairground, a rocking set, great fun. The band on before us starred MJ, the niece of Jerry Lee Lewis - they rocked and they rolled.

After the Primevals set, MJ came over and with a big smile, she said "Darlin', that was great! " - marvellous! MJ's sister Annie was smiling and bopping and enjoying the set. She's just been touring with her Mom, supporting Uncle Jerry in some venues. It's the family business! She came over to say Hi too. Lovely people. 

We had a chat afterwards to several old friends - as John noted, Wishaw has always been good to the Primevals. France, too. Wishaw and France. 

New guitars worked well - we did have one slightly unprepared moment mid-set when neither Martyn nor I had a slide : getting going onstage was all rushed, good backline all provided. when you are gigging more often, you don't make these kind of little mistakes. It was fine, though, set was well received, bunch of the new LP in the set.

French date are firming up for October - could be a great week!!

Good Work

A good, hard-working rehearsal tonight, fine-tuning some songs from the new album, and blasting through the set for Saturday twice. 

I tried out my new guitar - a Jazzmaster. It worked really well, good range of sounds, bit of twang, bit of roar - just what we need. 

This has been an emotional week - a friend passed away, a lovely, sweet, funny lady. Again, I always thought there would be time to catch up with her and her family again. Now there isn't. 

We ain't here long - make the most of it. Enjoy every sandwich. 

Where does the time go?

So - we have mixed the album. October looks like the release timeframe.

We rehearsed tonight for our upcoming gig in Wishaw. We are headlining the FML Tent at a festival in Beltane Park on Sat 18th August. Scheduled to be onstage at 8:30pm.

Good work tonight, getting used to playing a bunch of songs from the new album - working out how to pick out the guitar overdubs and pick the most important ones to play.

Also tried out a few covers, as we always do. Good to be back in the room with the guys, working, laughing - and trying to see what dates we can organise to launch the album.

Rocking my life away

Great fun tonight at FML, adding some more guitars, getting some vocals tidied up, blethering, eating biscuits and hanging out.

I did 7 guitar overdubs, all with Big Black. Every one a first take. 

Work travel meant that I was away for the previous 2 sessions - mostly vocal, with some guitar, and goodness knows if I'll be around for the final mixes.

There's plenty ther for the guys to sift, the core performances are really strong and I can't wait to hear the finished article

now - some Fraoch Heather Ale and a cold beefburger - amazing what you find in the fridge!

Crown Hotel, Biggar

We had great fun playing at our friend Iain Shedden's birthday party. A massive gathering of the clans, with all the enrichment that comes from seeing some of your oldest friends.

The Primevals set went down well. Then we took a break, and came back with a few covers - Sometimes Good Guys Don't Wear White, Midnight To Six, The Fire Of Love. 

Next up - Mr Chris Bailey. I have 4 copies of the 1st Saints album. That's 4 more than he does. We played (I'm) Stranded, and then No Time. That would be the A & B side of their debut single. Chris was funny, charming, and fired up for some rock & roll. The birthday boy, Mr Shedden,  took over on drums for Talk To Me Baby, and then Chris was bribed with a Gin & Tonic for G-L-O-R-I-A. Which lasted about ten minutes, with backing vocals from me & our old compadre Seori Burnett (elder brother of Rhod Burnett, Primevals original drummer). I've known Seori since 83 - that's the first time we've gigged together! 

Onstage, Chris referred to us as his compadres - a word which chimed with me, as I use it carefully & selectively. An absolute blast. 

It was exactly the kind of event that re-kindles your belief in humanity.
